Cookie Policy

Effective July 1, 2026. This page is maintained by the KOVA team to describe how KOVA uses cookies and similar browser storage. It is app-owned editable content, not legal advice. Read alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored in your browser by the sites you visit. "Similar technologies" include localStorage, sessionStorage, and IndexedDB. KOVA uses a mix of these to operate the app.

2. How KOVA uses them

We use browser storage for the following purposes:

  • Strictly necessary — authentication and session: to keep you signed in across page loads, refresh your access token, and remember an invite token you arrived with so we can redeem it after signup. Without these, the app cannot function.
  • Strictly necessary — security: to protect against cross-site request forgery and abuse, and to enforce rate limits on sensitive actions.
  • Preferences: to remember settings you choose, such as your active Cove, map auto-recenter preference, and other UI state.
  • Operational: to store diagnostic information that helps the app recover from errors and to cache map tiles for performance.

KOVA does not use third-party advertising cookies. We do not sell or share data collected by cookies with advertisers.

3. Third-party providers

Some cookies and storage are set by service providers we use to run the app, including our authentication and database provider, our map tile provider, and our hosting platform. These providers may set their own cookies to operate their services. See our Privacy Policy for the current list of subprocessors.

4. Your choices

Most browsers let you view, delete, or block cookies and site storage through their settings. Because KOVA relies on browser storage for sign-in and core functionality, blocking it will prevent the app from working correctly. You can sign out at any time to clear your session, and you can delete your account from Settings to remove associated data as described in the Privacy Policy.

5. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date at the top of this page.
